Hunter Homeless Connect Day
COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to constantly changing social distancing restrictions, we have unfortunately been forced to postpone our annual Hunter Homeless Connect Day event to 2021 (date to be confirmed).
Hunter Homeless Connect Day is an annual event that links people to vital services such as accommodation and housing providers, health and wellbeing, legal and financial assistance, employment, study, and general support to people who are experiencing homelessness, doing it tough and/or are at risk of homelessness.
This is delivered in an environment that maintains dignity, fosters a culture of connectedness, and encourages a sense of being a valued member of the community. To get a feel for the event take a look at our 2018 event here
The event has been running since 2009 and each year up to 1,500 guests attend, accessing a one-stop-shop of human and community services, including free haircuts, massages, immunisations, birth certificates, bedding, phone cards, food, clothing and much more.
Hunter Homeless Connect Day is delivered by a ‘community coalition’ of government and non-government services and volunteers, with in-kind and financial support from organisations, community partners and individuals across the Hunter. To register as a service provider at the next event click here.
Connecting the Hunter Program
Hunter Homeless Connect Inc. secured a $46,000.00 Social Investment Grant in late 2018 from Community Sector Banking to provide an opportunity for local businesses to support people experiencing homelessness.
The program provides a dignified and practical way for people experiencing homelessness, to identify inclusive and welcoming environments, have access to services and connection to members of the community who would like to donate their goods, facilities and services, without judgment. The businesses/providers are identified by a "Connecting the Hunter" decal in their windows indicating that they provide connection and services to people experiencing homelessness. People experiencing homelessness will receive vouchers via referral from specialist homelessness services to be used at the nominated businesses and services, to help with their immediate needs. There are many ways you can get involved with Hunter Homeless Connect, through volunteering, sponsorship, community partnerships, donations, fundraising and participation in our key events.
